I broke into tears when I called Burchett’s office today. My son (who is now a 9 year veteran of the US Navy) is on the autistic spectrum. When he started K5, his speech was at the level of a two year old. I fought for him. His teachers fought for him. And thanks to the Special Education program and a few AMAZING and dedicated teachers, my son is a thriving, highly contributing member of society. He’s now in engineering school! But he likely would have ended up in a home without the opportunities we had through the Department of Education. And I can‘t stand the thought that parents coming behind me with children facing challenges won’t have the same opportunities we did. It makes me sick to my stomach what they’re doing.
Their answer? That the Special Education programs will be moved to the Dept. of Health and Human Services. Under RFK with his brain worm and plethora of disproved medical conspiracy theories?? This is NOT reassuring. Our children should not be tests cases for a nutcase. Our current system WORKS. My own child is proof!
