LOCAL ROOTS, NATIONAL POWER.
More than 7 out of 10 members of Congress held local or state office first. We’re not just blowing smoke when we say everything up there
starts down here.
Local elections determine who draws voting districts (gerrymandering, voter suppression & disenfranchisement!), who becomes a state legislator (mandatory 287g ICE agreements!), who sets education/voting policy (banned books!), and whether we have rational and nonpartisan judges or sheriffs who increase cooperation with ICE – so local is national, just with a longer timeline.
School board, city council, county commission, and local judicial races are the ‘farm’ system for future members of Congress, governors, Supreme Court, and even presidents.
This voter guide was created to help you get to know the candidates on the August 6 ballot. Our goal is simple: make it easier for every voter to find information, compare candidates, and cast an informed vote.
We’ve gathered candidate profiles, websites, backgrounds, affiliations, and other helpful resources. We encourage you to read, ask questions, attend forums, and vote for the people who best represent your values and the future you want.
An informed voter is a powerful voter.
