THURSDAY’S ACTION FOR THE DAY

“Right now, Democrats have the power to defund and abolish ICE. We should do it. This is about right and wrong—and the murder we are seeing on the streets is just plain wrong. Anyone who supports funding DHS and ICE is supporting the murder of Americans. We can stop this.” ~ Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA)

Following the federal funding deal passed in mid-November 2025, Congress now faces a January 30th deadline to pass remaining appropriations bills, including the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) bill, to fully fund the government for fiscal year (FY) 2026.

Recent atrocities committed against both immigrants and citizens under the Trump administration have shone a light on abuses of power by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP). A whistleblower recently revealed an internal DHS memo authorizing ICE agents to enter homes without a warrant signed by a judge, in a flagrant violation of the Fourth Amendment.

ICE also received an influx of billions in additional funding from the so-called “One Big Beautiful” bill. The bill placed no guardrails or conditional oversight on the use of this money, essentially creating a $75 billion slush fund for ICE to continue their violent attacks on communities across the country.

Call on your senators to block any DHS appropriations bill or Continuing Resolution (CR) that maintains funding for ICE. This lawless and violent agency must be defunded and dissolved for good.

SCRIPT:

Hi, my name is [NAME] and I’m a constituent from [CITY, ZIP].

I’m calling to urge [REP/SEN NAME] push to defund ICE by opposing any appropriations bill that maintains ICE funding. This lawless agency is endangering public safety and must be held accountable.

Further, [REP/SEN NAME] must demand a standalone DHS funding bill so that funding for other government agencies is not held hostage during negotiations.

Thank you for your time and consideration.
