Takeaways from an anonymous member who attended today’s Tele Town Hall with Tim Burchett
——
I received the call to participate in Tim Burchett’s ‘town hall meeting’. I tolerated it for 45 minutes before I couldn’t take it any more. It was obvious that Tim and all of the participants who talked were confident that everyone on the line supported Trump and agreed that the problem to be resolved are the ‘radical leftists’.
One thing Tim pushes that might not be popular [with Republicans] is that major cuts must be made in the Pentagon in order to reach the necessary budget cuts.
Tim said the executive orders might as well be written in pencil because future presidents can nullify them. But he is well aware that the legislative process is slow and cumbersome, and expressed doubt that they will be codified by Congress.
A caller expressed concern that Chinese intities are buying lots of property. I assume that he means here locally. Tim said that there is no way they can identify who is buying land if they are 40% or less of the conglomerate. So the deals are closed before government leaders know the list of buyers.
My guess is that China, Russia, and who knows who else want our land, water and climate here in Tennessee. They don’t give a hoot about the people.
I am not sure if Tim is as clueless as he acts, or if he plays the good old boy game because he actually is aware of how vulnerable we are to international players and he doesn’t want to panic his constituents.
They were ‘paid to protest’. [Discussing April 5th Hands Off! event.] That was the call that made me hang up.
I fit the demographics to not threaten them. So my intention was to listen to understand. But they are so clueless and uninformed.
Tim called all of the men ‘brother’.
I doubt that they have any idea how other countries see us and how prepared China, Canada, Europe, and more are to let us suffer the fate of isolationism that we are bringing on ourselves.
Tim is convinced that he is on the right side and that most East Tennesseans agree with him.
They have a script and nothing will make them turn the page.
They are so convinced that they are on the side of Right and Truth that only crazy liberals or paid agitators would disagree. Certainly a 70+ year old White Presbyterian like me would be on board. It is as improbable to them as the idea that my dog can play chess.
