Show up! Tell Our County Commission To Stand By The First Amendment

Two of our County Commissioners are proposing requirements of our area nonprofits which would cause them to LOSE FUNDING if they in any way assist an undocumented neighbor.

“A sworn statement from the executive director affirming:
No funds are being used to benefit any person or persons residing in, staying in, or visiting Knox County, “while in violation of the United States immigration laws” and …
Practices are in place to make sure no organization funds are used for the benefit of a person in the U.S. illegally.”

How have we slipped so dangerously from, “we just want the violent criminals removed” before last year’s presidential election… to “you absolutely can NOT feed hungry children if their parents are undocumented” in 10 months time??

The seething cruelty that has r to the surface is astounding the more this year passes.

Our County Commission needs to know that our community stands firmly behind our immigrant neighbors and demands our first amendment rights not be trampled on.

And that’s where WE come in.

On October 27th @5pm, Indivisible is going to do what Indivisible does – SHOW UP!

We elected the County Commission, and we need them to do the right thing.

The largest ‘sign’ we can bring is standard 8.5 x 11 paper, and no sticks or handles. But bring colorful and highly viewable shows of support! Let the City Council know Knoxville LOVES THEIR NEIGHBORS and THE FIRST AMENDMENT.

Wear your Indivisible t-shirt if you’ve got one! If not, try to wear red.

We would love to have so many of us show up that we are lined out into the hallway.
