SUMMARY:Good Trouble Lives On & Indivisible Knoxville’s First Annual Restitution Sunday
DESCRIPTION:On July 17, the anniversary of Congressman John Lewis’s passing, we are hosting Good Trouble Lives On, a national day of nonviolent action to demand that Congress protect our freedom to vote, stand up to authoritarianism, and fight back against attacks on our communities from Black and Brown Americans to immigrants, LGBTQ+ folks, and working families.\n60 years ago, President Johnson called in the National Guard to protect civil rights marchers in Selma. Now, Trump is trying to deploy the Guard to stop protestors from using their voices. We can’t let that go unanswered.\nThis is a national day of nonviolent action to demand that Congress protect our freedom to vote, stand up to authoritarianism, and fight back against attacks on our communities from Black and Brown Americans to immigrants, LGBTQ+ folks, and working families.\n📍 Where: Howard H. Baker, Jr. United States Courthouse\n800 Market St.\n🗓️ When: Thursday July 17th @4pm\nOur goal is to completely circle the block around the Howard H. Baker, Jr. United States Courthouse, hands held, while singing ‘We Shall Not Be Moved’. It can’t be ignored, and it’s POWERFUL. But we need as many Indivisibles to SHOW UP as possible to pull it off.\nWe are also asking folks to bring donations of schools supplies which will go to children in Knoxville’s underserved communities. Please bring what you can for the kids!\nThen on Sunday we will be hosting Restitution Sunday in the Five Points Community to distribute school supplies, give away free ice cream to help beat the heat, games and prizes, face painting for the neighborhood kids, and more.\n“Our children are the future. We must teach them the truth about our past, and show them a path forward built through peace, love, and hope.” ~ John Lewis\nAny funds remaining after our day of Restitution will be donated to Battlefield Farm, so they can continue to provide free produce in our area food deserts.\nRestitution Sunday fundraiser link\nhttps://secure.actblue.com/donate/restitution_sunday ( https://secure.actblue.com/donate/restitution_sunday )\nLet’s get into Good Trouble for democracy, for social justice, and each other.\nIn solidarity\n#GoodTroubleLivesOn\nRegister here:\nhttps://www.mobilize.us/john-lewis-actions/event/804468/ ( https://www.mobilize.us/john-lewis-actions/event/804468/ )\nNote that in Knoxville, a handicapped driver can park in any municipally owned or leased parking lot or metered space for the maximum allowed time without charge, as per Knoxville’s Code of Ordinances.\n \n\n
