SUMMARY:Indivisible’s Congressional Recess Town Hall & Listening Session
DESCRIPTION:Join very special guests state Representatives Gloria Johnson & Sam McKenzie, Teamsters Local 519 President Wes Trotterchaud, United Campus Workers Executive Vice President Matthew Pamental, local activist John Johnson, André Canty (former President the 100 Black Men of Greater Knoxville), and others in a very special town hall and listening session hosted by Indivisible Knoxville and the Knox County Democratic Party.\n \n\nFor decades, the representative we have elected to work FOR US in Washington have catered to lobbyists and corporate donors. Now they blame the working class after said corporate donors decimated what used to be society’s ‘bootstraps’. Where are these bootstraps people are supposed to be pulling themselves up by? Bootstraps require opportunity, and the officials elected to REPRESENT us have allowed the job market AND the housing market to go rank.\n \n\nNow they blame working people for not working ‘hard enough’. They blame people working multiple part time jobs with low pay and no health benefits because that’s all far too many employers are offering.\n \n\nAnd that ‘gravy train’ Tim Burchett likes to sneer about is the safety net that keeps children fed and families healthy in the rank market Republicans perpetuate.\n \n\nNow there is talk of cutting funding to Medicaid too? Just how much do our representatives in Washington despise the working class?\n \n\nCongress isn’t listening to their constituents, and it’s time to make them feel the pressure. We’re showing up to demand they:\n \n\nVote NO on any budget that hands power to Elon Musk and DOGE. Fight back extremist budgets that cut funding to our social safety nets. Hold public town halls—because they work for US, not billionaires.\n \n\nThis will also be a listening event, so please bring stories of how these decisions and policies are affecting the very real lives of very real people.\n \n\n📍 Where: Deane Hill Community Center – 7414 Deane Hill Drive, Knoxville, TN 📅 When: March 21 @6PM\n📢 How to Prepare for This Event:\n✅ Bring signs or props → Make your message visible! (Ideas: “MUSK OR US,” “NO KINGS”, “PROTECT OUR MEDICAID”, “NO TAX BREAKS FOR BILLIONAIRES”) ✅ Recruit friends → The more people, the more power. ✅ Record everything → Post photos/videos with #MuskOrUs and tag @IndivisibleTeam.\n \n🚨 We’re fighting for democracy. Let’s make them listen.\n \nSign up here on to Mobilize:\nhttps://www.mobilize.us/indivisible/event/760933/ ( https://www.mobilize.us/indivisible/event/760933/ )\n \n\n\nAdd it to your calendar now and bring a sign and a friend!\n \n\n\n
